The 2025 Blask fellows were invited to the federal courthouse in Houston on June 5, 2025, for the Southern District of Texas Chapter's annual summer Law Student Event. The students working outside of the Houston Division were able to join via Zoom. Blask Foundation Board members Daniel Hu and Derek Hollingsworth congratulated the fellows and provided history about the fellowship program.
"Interning at the USAO for S.D. Tex. was an invaluable experience. I had the opportunity to engage in hearings at the courthouse, help prepare arguments to the Fifth Circuit, draft briefs and memos, and much more. Nothing can replace the dedicated and experienced AUSA’s who provided priceless feedback to me. And there is no short supply of interesting cases that pose complex legal questions, sometimes yet to be answered. I’ll never forget my experience there."
"Interning at the Federal Public Defender's Office was phenomenal. Not only did I have the opportunity to draft motions filed in federal court to advocate on behalf of indigent clients, but I also had the unique privilege of shadowing our appellate attorneys to The United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans for an oral argument! I am grateful to the Blask Fellowship for providing me with access to develop real-world skills to become an effective attorney."
-Wasiq Javed, University of Texas School of Law
"As a first-generation law student, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to intern in both the District Court and Bankruptcy Court. This experience allowed me to work alongside a team of dedicated professionals who provided valuable insights into the judicial system. I am grateful for the mentorship I received, which was instrumental in shaping my growth both as a law student and as an emerging legal professional. It was a privilege to intern in the Southern District of Texas, and the knowledge I gained was invaluable."
